As part of the celebrations at the Cevisama trade fair, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada paid a visit to the stand of Pamesa Cerámica, the firm she has been working closely with for over 20 years. Accompanied by Pamesa Group’s President, Fernando Roig, and General Manager Jorge Bauset, the prestigious designer unveiled the new lines launched by the company.
An innovative addition to Pamesa’s events this year was the talk and discussion led by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, attended by over 50 students from the School of Art and Design in Castellón. The students were curious to know how Pamesa transfers her colours, reliefs and iconic shapes to the ceramic medium.
Optimistic and colourful, Agatha demonstrated her predilection for vibrant colours, moons, stars, stripes and hearts. Agatha Ruiz de la Prada encouraged the designers of the future to look for happiness in colour and use the full range of shades and light to achieve the right balance of energy in their designs.
“Tiles have always been used to bring cheer into our homes. Happiness is colour and I have been lucky to work with such an outstanding firm as Pamesa”, commented the designer, who responded in her charming way to each of the students’ questions. She told them that “this field has evolved tremendously, and especially today, much more is invested in bathrooms and kitchens, which is where we need to add a bit of colour”. In preparing the ceramic designs of Pamesa by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada for the market, she said that teamwork is a vital factor.
Responding to one of the students’ questions, she explained that colour has always been an inspiration to her: “I wanted to be a painter, and graphic design was an essential part of that, so that’s where everything started”. She advised the students that a passion for design was the key to the whole process and that they should persevere to establish their own recognisable style. Indeed, as she said, “for instance, I’ve just got back from a show in New York, I rushed to catch the high-speed train to be here at Pamesa’s stand in Cevisama and after that I’m going back to New York. You have to be fascinated by design to be able to do all that”.
