The triathlete sponsored by Pamesa Cerámica came third in the third World Series trial held last Saturday on the Australian Gold Coast.
The Galician, placed after the British athlete Jonathan Brownlee and the Spanish Mario Mola, stated that “I didn’t expect to lose sight of Varga and Brownlee in the swimming, but water got into my goggles and as I was swimming behind the Frenchman Le Corre I didn’t realise that the others had pulled away. Then in the cycling it was impossible to catch them, though when the large group caught me up we managed to shorten the distance considerably. In the running I didn’t start off well, but at least I managed to secure third place. Brownlee was going really strongly and he deserved to win.”
With this third place on the Gold Coast, Gómez Noya has climbed onto the podium 30 times since 2009. He is classified overall behind Brownlee. The next meeting, on Sunday April 26, is in Cape Town where Gómez Noya won in 2014.
