The world triathlon champion sponsored by Pamesa Cerámica, Javier Gómez Noya, is one of the candidates for the Laureus Sportsman of Year shortlist, together with motor cycle rider Marc Márquez and the footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.
The triathlete has been put forward as a candidate following a brilliant season in which he won his fourth world championship, equalling Simon Lessing’s record, as well as the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Quebec just one week later.
The list of nominees will be announced on February 11 after the vote by the Laureus Global Media Selection Panel, made up of leading international sports editors, sportswriters, broadcasters and online journalists. The eventual winner will then be chosen from that shortlist in a secret ballot of the 47 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy – the living legends of sport honouring the greatest athletes of today – and revealed at the Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony in Shanghai on April 15.
