Five-time world triathlon champion,Javier Gómez Noya, has today received the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports 2016 ,chosen by the jury out of twenty candidates from ten countries. The triathlete, sponsored by Pamesa Cerámica, is therefore the first athlete from his sport to receive this prestigious award, for which the jury have taken into account his “brilliant” track record and his values of “effort and perseverance”.
Aspiring to Olympic gold in the Rio Games in August, his legendary status has grown even more today as he takes over from last year’s winners, the basketball player brothers Pau and Marc Gasol. The triathlete has expressed his satisfaction saying, “I am very proud because it is very important for me and for triathlon. I am very happy, even surprised, to receive such an award at this level. I’ve wanted to be a finalist for years. This gives me the determination to go on working at full steam”.
